XPath and Actionscript

Here is how you use XPath and Actionscript.

Here is the link to the XPathAPI.

Dynamic Scrolling Text in Actionscript

It is easier and simpler to use a UIScrollbar component and associate it with the dynamic text box than using a ScrollPane

Waiting For A Specified Period Of Time In Actionscript

Use the setInterval() function.

Strings Are Passed By Value In Actionscript

And hence, on return will not be modified. This is a bit confusing since we generally tend to look upon strings as objects. When you want a function to modify more than one string, note that they must be global or at least cannot be passed as parameters.

Swf files with Sound Objects

When you are trying to publish swf files that have Sound objects inside them, never publish the file by itself. Remember to load it in a holder swf file and then publish the holder file. Otherwise the sound will not play when viewed in a browser.

Flash, Actionscript, XML and DTD

There is no way to validate an XML document with a DTD using Flash and Actionscript !! How frustrating !!

And now, a certain property, getSetResults, of a certain object LocalConnection works fine in Flash MX 2004 Professional 7.2 but does not in Flash MX 2004 Professsional 7.0. To make matters worse, I need it and I have only the latter, not the former.

OK. Unbelievable Nugget of Wisdom. If you are trying to establish a local connection between flash movies, you'd better declare the local connection object as say "my_lc = new LocalConnection()". Do not go for the more correct style of declaring separately as "var my_lc; my_lc = new LocalConnection();"Why etc. don't ask.

MovieClip stop() and play() functions

Please note that MovieClip stop() and play() functions when applied to a .swf file loaded by using loadMovie function might not work for certain .swf files. Why this is so I do not know.
